  1. An idea is always a good thing, but when you actually start ‘getting your hands dirty’ and planning the execution process, you realise how much you want to tear your hair out. Learning how to do a minute and a half stop motion film is a lot of work, especially when you have work to do for other classes. It’s daunting, but at the same time I’m excited to start. It’ll be a good distraction from all the academic reading and writing.

    Today I learned:
To do a stop motion film with dialogue, you need to record the dialogue first. This is different from usual filming, where you record and dub over later.
    Time management is absolutely key.
Having meetings in Gutman Commons is a bad, bad, bad idea.

Current mood: overwhelmed, but happy :)

  2. Trying not to get distracted by minor details, need to focus on the final product and getting the timeline out. Really thinking about the logistics of things, breaking the steps (dialogue or video first, and the other second?). Seeking advice from others. Realizing that there’s not a lot of time to get things done. Good thing we are testing things out this Sunday.

Relieved that we have a plan rather than swimming in the abyss or taking things as they come, and we’re meeting weekly on Thursday nights to ensure progress and timeliness.

To do: practice my lines (Witch 3? might have to change because I’m stumbling over them already), storyboarding the scene out.

  3. I’m realizing what a daunting task we are undertaking with this project but am excited to dive into the process. Organization and weekly progress assessment will be key to maintaining our timeline. Thus far, the preparation process is not unlike that required of conceiving a theatrical production. Thinking in terms of learning opportunities, designing and creating a stop-motion film using Shakespeare could be beneficial for students to break down the text and think about the meaning behind the words.

Current mood: a bit overwhelmed but excited
